For installing a 3x3 post, a good rule of thumb is to use an auger that is at least 6 inches in diameter. This will provide enough space to position the post and allow for concrete to be poured around it to secure it in place. If you plan to add more stability with extra concrete, you might consider using an 8-inch auger for additional room.
