The expansion gap for composite decking refers to the space left between the decking boards to allow for thermal expansion and contraction due to temperature changes. Generally, a gap of about 1/8 inch to 3/16 inch is recommended between boards and between the boards and any adjacent structures. It's important to follow the manufacturer's guidelines, as specific products may have different requirements based on their material composition and environmental conditions. Do not install composite decking butt end to butt end - you need a breaker board inbetween.
